Our last speaker for 2017 was the knowledgeable Rob Dunbar, of Sewickley, who had studied General George Armstrong Custer from the time of his earliest childhood. His fascination with the subject continues to this day and we were treated to a marvelous presentation of imformative slide, a narrative without notes and a great story to tell!
Here’s Rob dwarfed by the giant scene at the Moon Township Municipal Building that allowed Rob’s audience to really get a feel for the action that occurred at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
Secretary Patty Zerisnek’s father, Bruce Thompson, demonstrates his rife from that same time period.
Custer was always seen as the romantic hero in history, although not by the Native American Indians. There was much bloodshed and terrible atrocities committed on both sides of this battle.
Although this informtion comes from an earlier publicaiton called “Signals” from the Sewickley Valley Historical Society, the information about Custer and our presenter, Rob Dunbar, is still very relevant.

How wonderful it was to see these family members at our last meeting in 2017.
The last meeting our dear John Kennedy attended before passing away in 2017. Memory Eternal. John had brought some important historical papers for the Society to have. The Board proposed a Memorial Plaque, dedicating the new Moon Park Maintenance Building to John Kennedy for all his years of faithful service to the Township. Oh, how he loved his history! See several stories here on the website that John Kennedy authored.
We always have a nice time after our meetings with a little refreshments to quench our thirst, or tickle our pallets.
